Funding

With the rise of interest in documentary content, has documentary funding also seen an increase? It has, but with a price.

Recently, funding for documentaries has shifted. According to the study Crowdsourcing and

outsourcing: the impact of online funding and distribution on the documentary film industry in the UK by Inge Ejbye Sørensen of Copenhagen University, online distribution methods have impacted  "crowd financing, pay-if-you-want schemes, and online distribution

Sites" in opposition with the traditional sources of funding such as grants and philanthropists. While independent financing can lead to increased flexibility in relation to grants, it also can be harder to accrue as much money.
